Ujjain Sets World Record with 1500 Damru Players at Mahakaleshwar Temple

On the third Monday of the holy Savan month, Ujjain, also known as Mahakal ki Nagri, achieved a remarkable feat. A total of 1500 Damru players gathered at Shaktipath, located on the premises of Mahakaleshwar Temple, and created a world record with their captivating rhythmic performance.

The city resonated with the sound of Damru, Lord Shiva’s favorite musical instrument. This event broke the previous record held by the Federation of Indian Association in New York, where 488 people played Damru. Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath presented the certificate for this achievement.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav extended his congratulations to Ujjain for this accomplishment. He expressed his joy on social media, stating, “With the sound of 1500 damrus, Avantika Nagari (Ujjain city) created a world record. A wish to make the city of Baba Mahakal resound with the sound of damrus has come true today.”

The event was organized with the efforts of the district administration and Mahakal management committee. The performance was part of the traditional Baba Mahakal Sawari, a procession held every Monday in the month of Savan. Devotees eagerly wait for hours to witness this ride and consider themselves blessed by getting a glimpse of Baba Mahakal.
