UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar Announces Teacher Training and New Exam Dates
The chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, announced that the UGC is training approximately 15 lakh teachers in higher education through the ‘Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Program’.
During a press conference in Guwahati, Kumar discussed integrating skill education into degree programs to increase employment opportunities for students. He highlighted the importance of providing multidisciplinary and holistic education and reaching out to students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds using digital technology.
Kumar also urged universities to open more off-campus centers to increase student intake and make education more accessible and equitable. He emphasized that teachers are the backbone of the education system and mentioned efforts to strengthen the research ecosystem in universities.
Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced new dates for the UGC-NET June 2024 exams, Joint CSIR UGC NET exams, and NCET 2024 exams. The UGC NET exams will be held between August 21 and September 4, the Joint CSIR UGC NET from July 25 to July 27, and the NCET on July 10. These exams will now be computer-based.
The Ministry of Education canceled the UGC-NET exam conducted on June 18 to ensure transparency and sanctity in the examination process.
