The Udhampur Forest Division in Jammu and Kashmir has announced a plan to plant 1.1 lakh saplings to restore greenery in areas affected by recent forest fires. The saplings have been nurtured in six nurseries, including the Central Nursery of the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department and the Udhampur Range Mand.

Divisional Forest Officer Navneet Singh explained that the nurseries have a combined production capacity of 5 lakh saplings, with over 3 lakh currently in stock. The plan includes planting 1.1 lakh saplings in the forests and an additional 20,000 saplings in collaboration with schools, colleges, the Army, CRPF, and police.

Singh acknowledged the challenges posed by dry spells and forest fires but expressed optimism due to recent rainfall. He emphasized the department’s commitment to restoring lost greenery and surpassing previous efforts to revitalize Udhampur’s forests.
