UDF’s MM Hassan Criticizes CPI(M) for Choosing Expelled Congress Member P Sarin for Palakkad Bypolls
In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, United Democratic Front Convener MM Hassan expressed his disapproval of the CPI(M)’s decision to field P Sarin, who was recently expelled from Congress, as their candidate for the Palakkad Assembly bypolls. Hassan stated that CPI(M) struggled to find a suitable candidate, which led to their choice of Sarin, a former opponent of the party.
Hassan described Sarin as an opportunist who had previously opposed CPI(M) but has now switched sides. Sarin was removed from Congress for anti-organization activities and violating party discipline. He had also criticized Congress’s decision to field Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil for the bypolls and made allegations against Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan.
The Election Commission of India announced bypolls for 48 assembly constituencies, including Palakkad, to be held on November 13, with counting on November 23. The announcement was made by Chief Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Local leaders, including VD Satheesan and BJP state president K Surendran, requested a postponement due to the Kalpathi Ratholsavam festival coinciding with the election dates.
