New Delhi, August 8: Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), visited Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at their residence in Delhi. Thackeray was accompanied by his son Aaditya Thackeray and party leader Sanjay Raut. AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha were also present.

Support for Kejriwal Family

MP Sanjay Singh mentioned that Uddhav Thackeray extended his support to Sunita Kejriwal and Arvind Kejriwal’s parents. Singh highlighted that Arvind Kejriwal’s release was stopped without a copy of the order, and a new CBI case was made to keep him in jail. Thackeray assured the Kejriwal family of his support against the government’s actions.

Legal Developments

The Delhi High Court recently dismissed Arvind Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in the Excise Policy matter. The court stated that the arrest was justified. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has requested a short adjournment to address its plea for the cancellation of Kejriwal’s bail. The court has adjourned the matter to September 5, 2024.

Political Meetings

Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. These meetings are part of Thackeray’s three-day visit to Delhi to meet major opposition leaders ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

Upcoming Elections

Maharashtra is expected to hold elections for its 288-member legislative assembly later this year. The Election Commission has yet to announce the dates. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP’s seats in Maharashtra dropped to nine from 23 in 2019. The Congress secured 13 seats, while the Shiv Sena and NCP won seven and one seats respectively.
