Uddhav Thackeray Meets Congress Leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief, Uddhav Thackeray, along with his son Aditya Thackeray, met Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi. The meeting was part of the preparations for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut and Congress MP KC Venugopal were also present at the meeting. On August 3, Sharad Pawar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Shinde to discuss issues including the Maratha reservation.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi parties are gearing up for the assembly elections, with Congress holding a meeting of its state leaders on August 4. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Sanjay Nirupam criticized Uddhav Thackeray, claiming his visit to Delhi was driven by a desire for power. Nirupam suggested that Thackeray’s visit was an attempt to position himself as the chief contender for the Chief Ministership within the MVA.
The state is expected to go to polls for the 288-member legislative assembly later this year, although the Election Commission has yet to announce the dates. In the previous elections, the BJP’s seat count dropped to nine, while Congress improved to 13 seats. The Shiv Sena and NCP won seven and one seats respectively, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) securing nine seats and the NCP – Sharadchandra Pawar winning eight seats.
