Uddhav Thackeray Leads Protest in Mumbai Over Shivaji Statue Collapse
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) held a protest in Mumbai on Sunday against the collapse of the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg. UBT Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray stated that Maharashtra’s soul has been insulted and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, ‘Wherever he lays his hand, truth gets destroyed.’
Thackeray accused the government of being anti-Shiva and unconstitutional. He mentioned that Modi apologized for the incident but questioned the sincerity of his apology. Thackeray emphasized that Maharashtra will never forgive those who insult Shivaji.
Prime Minister Modi had earlier apologized to the people of Maharashtra for the statue’s collapse while addressing a gathering in Malvan, Palghar district. He also criticized the opposition for not being apologetic.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut declared that the Aghadi would not remain silent about the incident and criticized the BJP for holding a counter-protest in Dadar, Mumbai. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the MVA’s protest political, claiming that MVA and Congress never respected Shivaji.
The 35-foot-tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, unveiled on December 4 last year during Navy Day celebrations, collapsed on August 26.
