UAE Participates in G20 Ministerial Session in Brazil
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), through its Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), took part in the G20 Ministerial Session in Brazil. The session focused on collaboration among G20 countries, addressing energy sector challenges and climate action.
Commitment to Energy Transition
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, emphasized the UAE’s dedication to a fair energy transition, as outlined in the UAE Consensus. He engaged in high-level discussions, including the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation Dialogue, stressing innovation’s role in achieving climate goals.
Future Fuels and Hydrogen Trade
Al Olama participated in the Unlocking Future Fuels Ministerial Session, discussing the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the country’s commitment to energy transition. He co-led the Hydrogen International Trade Forum, focusing on expanding hydrogen trade and developing cross-border markets.
Innovative Cooling Technologies
In a session on efficient cooling technologies, Al Olama addressed energy consumption challenges and climate impacts. He highlighted the UAE’s efforts in renewable energy, aiming to triple its capacity by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050.
UAE’s Renewable Energy Goals
The UAE has invested AED160 billion in clean energy and plans an additional AED500 billion investment over the next 30 years. The current renewables capacity is 6 GW, with nuclear energy at 5.6 GW, aiming for 19.8 GW by 2030.
