UAE’s Amna Al Dahak and BRICS Countries Unite for Food Security and Environmental Conservation

Abu Dhabi [UAE], July 1: Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), highlighted the UAE’s dedication to working with BRICS countries on food security and environmental conservation. This announcement was made during the 14th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and the 10th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting in Moscow on June 28.

Al Dahak, accompanied by Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of MOCCAE, and other officials, participated in various technical sessions and meetings with BRICS counterparts. She emphasized the UAE’s goal to create a multilateral framework to boost food security, trade, and sustainable food systems among member states.

Al Dahak stated, “The UAE has a clear strategy to enhance national food security and achieve food self-sufficiency as part of our National Food Security Strategy 2051. We are committed to developing sustainable food systems, both domestically and internationally.”

She also mentioned the UAE’s efforts to enhance intra-trade and sign comprehensive economic partnership agreements to ensure the smooth flow of trade and remove unjustified restrictions. Al Dahak added, “We believe that promoting fair, inclusive, and equitable trade in the agricultural sector will significantly contribute to building sustainable food systems worldwide.”

During the “Establishment of BRICS Grain Exchange as an Element of Mutual Trade Development” session, Al Dahak reiterated the importance of trade in enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture. She welcomed the establishment of the BRICS Grain Exchange, anticipating it would advance shared objectives in grain trade.

At the 10th BRICS Environment Ministers Meeting, Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi emphasized the significant challenge of climate change and the UAE’s efforts to achieve Net Zero by 2050. He highlighted the importance of international cooperation for a sustainable future and the UAE’s initiatives to enhance global climate action.

A team from the Ministry, led by Mohamed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary of the Biodiversity and Marine Life Sector at MOCCAE, also participated in the 2nd Meeting of the BRICS Agriculture Cooperation Working Group. They discussed BRICS priorities in agriculture and prepared an action plan for 2024-2028 on agricultural cooperation among BRICS countries.
