UAE’s Abdullah Al Nuaimi Highlights Efforts on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Justice, emphasized the importance of observing World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30. This day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, aims to raise awareness and promote efforts to combat human trafficking.
Al Nuaimi highlighted that under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has committed to eradicating this inhumane crime. He noted that the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking has reviewed policies and legislative frameworks to create a dynamic and flexible national system to address the crime and its developments.
In 2023, a new law was enacted to combat human trafficking, providing services to protect victims and imposing stringent penalties on perpetrators. The law focuses on severe penalties for traffickers, especially when the victim is a child. Al Nuaimi also mentioned the launch of an electronic system by the Ministry of Justice to refer victims of human trafficking, aiming to protect their rights and dignity swiftly.
He stressed the importance of international cooperation and solidarity among countries and organizations to reduce this transnational crime.
