Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal Announces Major Investment

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to invest approximately USD 2 billion in setting up food processing facilities in India. This announcement was made by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during the 12th Meeting of the India-UAE High-level Task Force on Investments.

Investment Details

The investment aims to establish food parks in India over the next two to two-and-a-half years. These facilities will process high-quality products using Indian farmers’ produce, which will then be sold in the UAE. The initiative is part of a long-standing discussion to enhance trade and economic ties between the two countries.

Joint Task Force and Future Plans

The Joint Task Force, established in 2013, focuses on promoting trade and investment between India and the UAE. A small working group will be formed to facilitate the establishment of a food corridor between the two nations.

Additional Collaborations

During the meeting, both countries explored emerging sectors such as data centers, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. Plans to set up investment promotion offices in both countries were also discussed, with UAE offering a location for free.

Educational Expansion

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will establish its first overseas campus in the UAE, offering courses and eventually a full campus.

Investment Statistics

UAE is the seventh largest contributor to Foreign Direct Investment in India, with a cumulative investment of approximately USD 19 billion from April 2000 to June 2024. India also invests 5% of its total Overseas Direct Investments in the UAE.
