UAE Enhances Water Infrastructure with New Projects
Under the guidance of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the supervision of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE is set to improve its water infrastructure. The Executive Committee of the Initiatives of His Highness the President has approved a series of projects to build dams and water canals across the country.
Key Projects and Objectives
The initiative aims to align with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 by enhancing water storage capacity. Plans include constructing nine new dams, expanding two existing ones, and building embankment barriers. These projects will help manage climate change impacts and increase water reserves by collecting rainwater and floodwaters, with a storage capacity of up to 8 million cubic meters.
Timeline and Locations
The projects are expected to be completed within 19 months. Additionally, nine water canals, totaling approximately 9 kilometers, will be constructed to manage water flow from rainfall in residential areas. The projects will cover 13 areas, including Shis and Khor Fakkan in Sharjah, Masfout in Ajman, Sha’am and Al Fahleen in Ras Al Khaimah, and several locations in Fujairah.
