UAE Pledges $7 Million to Help Children in Sudan and South Sudan

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a new agreement with UNICEF to provide $7 million in support of humanitarian efforts in Sudan and South Sudan. This includes $6 million for Sudan and $1 million for South Sudan.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has created a severe crisis, especially for children. An estimated 13.6 million children need urgent help, and over six million people have been displaced, making it the world’s largest child displacement crisis.

Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated, “The UAE is deeply committed to supporting the most vulnerable populations affected by conflict, particularly children who are bearing the brunt of the crisis in Sudan and South Sudan.”

The UAE’s contribution will help UNICEF provide primary health care, quality water, and education to children and women in these regions. The UAE has a long history of aiding Sudan, having provided over $3.5 billion in aid over the past decade. Since the conflict began in 2023, the UAE has given $230 million in humanitarian aid and sent 159 relief flights with over 10,000 tonnes of supplies.

The UAE also calls for an immediate ceasefire and stresses the importance of finding a peaceful solution through dialogue. The country remains engaged with all stakeholders to help Sudan achieve a lasting settlement and form a government with civilian participation.
