The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by the Ministry of Interior, sponsored and took part in the UN Chiefs of Police Summit 2024. This important event was held at the UN headquarters in New York from June 26 to 27.

Commitment to Global Security

The UAE’s participation aligns with its dedication to enhancing global security, stability, and peace. The summit is the largest gathering of ministers, police chiefs, and senior representatives from regional police organizations worldwide. It aims to improve cooperation in policing and security among member states.

Opening Speech by Jean-Pierre Lacroix

Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, thanked the UAE for sponsoring the summit. He highlighted the UAE’s contributions, such as hosting conferences in Abu Dhabi to assess UN Police leaders’ performance and providing training courses to improve UN Police capabilities.

UAE’s Role and Contributions

The UAE Ministry of Interior has been actively involved in UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. The UAE delegation emphasized their commitment to international cooperation in security and policing to combat crime.

Environmental Protection Initiatives

On the sidelines of the summit, the International Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC) hosted a panel discussion titled “Guardians of the Earth: Global Law Enforcement Strategies for Environmental Protection.” This discussion aimed to raise awareness about the impact of police operations on environmental crimes and climate change.

The UAE’s efforts, guided by the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, continue to support global security and stability, fostering prosperity and a decent life for all people.
