UAE Leaders Participate in Key Meetings at 79th UN General Assembly

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation continued its active participation in several important meetings on the third day of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York.

Focus on Antimicrobial Resistance

Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, attended the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Member States approved a Political Declaration on AMR. Al Owais also joined an event addressing AMR challenges in migrant and refugee populations, praising the progress made and committing to further collaboration.

Meetings on International Cooperation and Climate Change

Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, met with Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Abdulla Ahmed Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, participated in the UAE-hosted COP Presidencies Troika Event, attended by the COP29 President and Brazil.

Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development

Sheikh Salem Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, took part in a UN Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) panel on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies through intercultural and inter-religious dialogue. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, joined the 2024 Global Centre on Adaptation’s UNGA Leaders’ Dialogue and held meetings with UN and government officials on energy and the environment.

Investment in African Markets

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, participated in a roundtable on accelerating investment in African markets and attended the ‘Africa at an Inflection Point’ symposium. He engaged in discussions with Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of Somalia, and Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, among others.

Asian Cooperation and BRICS

Ahmed Al Sayegh, Minister of State, attended the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting and delivered a statement at the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting, joined by Saeed Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs.

Libya and Gaza Discussions

Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, participated in the Libya Senior Officials Meeting and a ministerial meeting on Gaza, co-hosted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the European Union, and Norway.

Engagements on Women’s Rights and Nuclear Disarmament

Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh met with Sima Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women, and Ambassador Wolfgang Brulhar, Swiss Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process. Salem Saeed Al Jaberi attended a high-level meeting on the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Ocean Conservation and Education

Razan Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), discussed sustainable ocean planning with the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy. Sheikha Shamma Bint Sultan Al Nahyan participated in the ‘Project Everyone’ event on education.
