UAE Launches Global Energy Efficiency Alliance at COP29

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new initiative called the “Global Energy Efficiency Alliance” during the COP29 event in Baku, Azerbaijan. This initiative aims to double the global energy efficiency rates by 2030 and significantly reduce emissions. It builds on the UAE’s previous commitments from COP28, known as the ‘UAE Consensus’, which focused on reducing carbon emissions and conserving natural resources.

UAE’s Leadership in Energy Efficiency

Sharif Al Olama, the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, announced the initiative. He stated that the UAE will lead the alliance by sharing best practices in energy efficiency, facilitating knowledge transfer, and forming partnerships with the private sector. Al Olama urged governments, organizations, and leaders worldwide to join the alliance to set ambitious goals and encourage investments in energy efficiency projects.

Goals and Collaboration

The alliance aims to reduce carbon emissions and minimize natural resource consumption through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and public-private partnerships. It will also focus on standardizing practices and developing policies and technologies necessary for sustainability. A special emphasis is placed on collaborating with African nations to provide financing and technological solutions crucial for their development.
