UAE Joins G20 Sherpa Meeting in Rio de Janeiro

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) sent a delegation led by Saleh Al Suwaidi, the UAE Ambassador to Brazil and the UAE Sous Sherpa to the G20, to participate in the Fourth G20 Sherpa Meeting. This event took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 12th to 17th, 2024.

Focus of the Meeting

The meeting aimed to negotiate and draft the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Summit Declaration. This important summit will be hosted by Brazil on November 18th and 19th, 2024. The draft declaration discussed by the G20 Sherpas includes several global priorities such as international economic and political developments, social inclusion, the fight against hunger and poverty, energy transition, sustainable development, and the reform of global governance institutions.

UAE’s Participation

The UAE was invited as a guest country to the G20 for the fifth time. Previously, the UAE participated in G20 Summits held in France in 2011, Saudi Arabia in 2020, Indonesia in 2022, and India in 2023.
