UAE Helps Vaccinate Over 187,000 Children in Gaza Against Polio
The UAE has accelerated the vaccination of over 187,000 children in Gaza since the launch of a polio campaign. This effort is in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Emergency Response
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the provision of $5 million to support the emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza after the first case of type 2 polio was detected in 25 years. The campaign aims to vaccinate 640,000 children amid widespread displacement and damage to health infrastructure.
Medical Efforts
With 2,100 medical staff and mobile health teams, 1.26 million doses of the polio vaccine have already reached Gaza and will be distributed in phases. An additional 400,000 doses are expected to arrive soon.
Broader Support
The UAE’s support includes treating 1,000 wounded children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza, providing 130 million gallons of clean water, and delivering 40,000 tonnes of medical supplies. This is part of the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Gaza people.
