UAE Mediates Successful Captive Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has played a crucial role in facilitating a new exchange of captives between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine. This latest effort has resulted in the release of 190 captives, bringing the total number of captives exchanged through UAE mediation to 2,184.
UAE’s Diplomatic Efforts
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the UAE expressed its gratitude to both Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation and responsiveness to the UAE’s mediation efforts. These efforts have been instrumental in the success of the prisoner exchange, despite the ongoing war challenges.
Trust and Cooperation
The successful mediation reflects the trust that both Russia and Ukraine have in the UAE, as well as their appreciation for the UAE’s role in supporting a diplomatic resolution to the crisis. The Ministry emphasized that this is the ninth successful mediation since the beginning of 2024, highlighting the friendly relations between the UAE and both countries.

The UAE remains committed to continuing its efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The Ministry stressed the importance of dialogue and de-escalation, aiming to support initiatives that mitigate the humanitarian impact of the crisis, including on refugees and captives.
Previous Mediation Successes
Since the start of the year, the UAE has successfully mediated eight exchanges of war captives between Russia and Ukraine. Additionally, in December 2022, the UAE facilitated a successful exchange of two prisoners between the United States and the Russian Federation.
