UAE Becomes 9th Largest Buyer of Indian Seafood

MPEDA Chairman D V Swamy Shares Record-Breaking Export Figures

The UAE has become the ninth largest destination for Indian seafood exports, according to D V Swamy, Chairman of India’s Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA). In the financial year 2023-2024, India exported 1.78 million metric tonnes of seafood worth $7.38 billion.

Frozen shrimp was the major export item, with the Middle East importing 28,571 metric tonnes. The top 10 markets together contributed nearly 80% of India’s seafood exports in US dollar terms.

The MPEDA, established by an act of India’s Parliament in 1972, is responsible for promoting the export of Indian marine products.
