U.S.-India Business Council Meets Pralhad Joshi to Discuss Renewable Energy
The representatives of the U.S.-India Business Council met with Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, in New Delhi. They discussed ways to enhance the resilience of the renewable energy technology supply chain in India, focusing on solar, wind, and other critical technologies essential for achieving India’s energy security and transition goals. The council also emphasized supporting the advancement of the hydrogen ecosystem within the U.S.-India corridor.
Last month, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti announced that the International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) will invest USD 3.8 billion to meet India’s renewable energy and infrastructure goals. This investment will also support India’s agricultural, healthcare, and financial services goals. Garcetti highlighted the importance of deepening connections between cities like Los Angeles and Mumbai through initiatives like the first US-India cities exchange.
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, both countries have been closely working together in the renewable energy sector. In August last year, they launched the US-India Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP) under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership. Announced in 2023 during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, RETAP focuses on green/clean hydrogen, wind energy, long-duration energy storage, and explores geothermal and ocean/tidal energy technologies.
During the meeting, various issues such as hydrogen, energy storage, wind, geothermal energy, marine renewable energy technologies, and clean energy deployment programs were discussed.
