Two Arrested and Two Minors Detained in Pune for Alleged Rape of 16-Year-Old Girl
In Pune, Maharashtra, two young adults and two minors have been detained for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl from a local college. The accused, aged between 20 and 22, met the girl separately on social media and had sexual relations with her between April and September, according to Pune Police.
DCP Zone 2, Smarthna Patil, who is investigating the case, stated, “All the accused, who did not know each other, had met the girl on social media platforms separately and allegedly had sexual relations with the girl at different places between April and September.”
The incident came to light during a session on sexual offences against children. A girl student from the same college, who appeared depressed, confided in counsellors about her friend being a victim. This led to an investigation revealing that the victim had met four suspects on social media and was allegedly raped on separate occasions.
Police have booked the suspects on charges of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with sections of the Information Technology Act. Some videos of the girl were also made, adding IT Act sections to the charges. “We have registered a case against four suspects – among whom two are minors and further probe is on,” added the police officer.
