On Saturday, twin bomb blasts shook Mogadishu and the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. According to police reports, at least six people lost their lives and ten others were injured in these deadly explosions.

Details of the Blasts

The first explosion occurred near the National Theatre in Mogadishu, about a kilometre from the president’s office. Mohamed Haji Nur, a witness, said, “An explosives-laden vehicle, which was parked on the road near a restaurant in the busy Hamar Weyne district, went off. I could see the dead bodies of at least three people, two of them women.”

The second blast took place in a livestock market in Jowhar city, located in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region. Jowhar police Commander Bashir Hassan confirmed that one civilian died and three others were injured in this explosion.

Prime Minister’s Address

During his address to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Somalia Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condemned Ethiopia’s attempts to annex parts of Somalia. He urged the international community to support Somalia’s sovereignty and emphasized the need for sustainable funding for peacekeeping missions in the country.
