TVK Chief Vijay Calls for November 1 to be Celebrated as Tamil Nadu Day

Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party leader Vijay has proposed that November 1 be celebrated as Tamil Nadu Day. He highlighted that this date is significant as it marks the sacrifices of ‘border fighters’ who worked for the integration of Tamil-speaking regions into Tamil Nadu.

Vijay explained that November 1, 1956, was when the state became a separate entity with the creation of linguistic provinces. He paid tribute to Martyr Shankaralinganar, who fasted to death demanding the renaming of Madras State to Tamil Nadu. This demand was fulfilled when CN Annadurai, the then Chief Minister, passed a resolution in 1967 to officially rename the state.

Vijay urged people to remember the historical significance of this day and celebrate it as Tamil Nadu Day.
