Turkiye Condemns Killing of Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran Attack

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the killing of Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in an attack in Tehran. The ministry expressed condolences to the Palestinian people and accused the Israeli government of lacking intention to achieve peace. They warned that the attack aimed to spread war in Gaza to a regional level and called for international action to prevent further conflict.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their house was hit by a projectile in Tehran. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Iranian President-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian.

Earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, met with Haniyeh and shared pictures of their meeting on social media. The Israel Defence Forces responded by criticizing the meeting and accusing Iran of funding terrorist activities against Israel.

In April, three of Haniyeh’s sons were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza. The Israel Defence Forces also announced the elimination of Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah military commander responsible for numerous attacks on Israelis and foreign nationals.
