TTD Chairman BR Naidu Responds to AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s Comments on Tirumala

In Hyderabad, Telangana, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman BR Naidu criticized AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s remarks about the TTD. Naidu stated that the Waqf Board is a real estate company and questioned Owaisi’s comparison of it to the revered Hindu temple, Tirumala. Naidu emphasized that Tirumala is a Hindu temple and mentioned ongoing demands that non-Hindus should not be present there, aligning with Sanatana Dharma principles. He plans to address this in the first board meeting.

Owaisi had criticized the Modi government’s proposed Waqf amendment bill, which mandates the inclusion of two non-Muslim members in the central Waqf Council. He questioned why non-Muslims should be included in the Waqf Board when Muslims cannot be trustees of the TTD. Owaisi highlighted that all 24 members of the TTD Board are Hindu and expressed concerns about the proposed bill’s provisions.

Naidu, newly appointed as TTD Chairman, stated his intention to discuss with the government the status of employees from other religions working at Tirumala, considering their transfer or voluntary retirement. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, introduced in August, aims to reform the management of waqf properties, addressing issues of mismanagement and corruption.
