Tripura’s Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath Inaugurates Mango Festival in Dhalai

On Sunday, Tripura’s Agriculture Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, inaugurated the Mango Festival in Dhalai. The festival aims to promote the efforts of local farmers and showcase the diverse mango varieties grown in the area.

Diverse Mango Varieties

Minister Nath highlighted that the progressive farmers of the Ganda Twuisa subdivision have created a mini world of mangoes. Almost all famous mango varieties from countries like Thailand, Japan, and Bangladesh are cultivated here. The farmers grow 22 varieties, including Amrapali, Banana, King of Chakapat, Bari, and Haribhanga.

Support for Farmers

Nath announced plans to install a solar-powered mini cold storage and a solar-powered water pump to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for the farmers. He mentioned that around 144 farmers rely on mango farming, with 15 considered experts, earning between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh per annum.

Farmers’ Success Stories

Local farmer Tapan Jyoti Chakma shared his success in cultivating 13 varieties of mangoes, emphasizing the need for advanced equipment. Another farmer, Priyo Chakma, highlighted the need for proper marketing support and logistical assistance from the government.

Farmers Knowledge Centre

The event also included the virtual inauguration of the Farmers Knowledge Centre at Raisyabari. The event was attended by ADC Executive Member Rajesh Tripura, ex-MP Rebati Tripura, MLA Nandita Reang Debbarma, and other senior officials.
