In West Tripura, India, Minister Sudhanshu Das has proposed the creation of a Sanatan Dharma Board, similar to the Waqf Board, to safeguard Hindu temples. Das questioned the absence of such a board for Sanatan Dharma, emphasizing the need for protection of temples, citing incidents like those in Tirupati.

Das stated, “We must have a board to protect all our temples. If it is not given to us, then don’t give it to anyone else.”

The Waqf Board is a legal entity that manages property for the Muslim community, established under the Waqf Act of 1995. It has faced issues of mismanagement and corruption. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, aims to introduce reforms such as digitization and stricter audits.
