Tripura High Court Orders Drug Peddlers to Lead Anti-Drug Campaigns in Their Villages

Agartala (West Tripura) [India], July 3: In a significant decision, the Tripura High Court, led by Justice Arindam Lodh, directed two drug peddlers to conduct anti-drug campaigns in their villages for at least one month. The court postponed their bail application for a month and instructed them to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

The two accused, Jibanjoy Tripura and Selenjoy Tripura, were asked to involve their families in the campaign. Justice Lodh emphasized that drug peddling at a young age could ruin their lives and negatively impact future generations.

The court noted that Tripura has become a major route for illegal drug trade and stressed the importance of community involvement in combating this issue. The local police and administration were directed to assist the families and document the campaign activities through videos and photographs.

The next bail hearing is scheduled for August 5. The accused were charged under section 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act 1985 and were arrested by the Birganj police team in the Gomati District of Tripura.
