Tripura Helps Farmers with Rs 22 Crore After Cyclone Midhili, Announces Wage Hike

The Tripura government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore to support farmers who faced significant losses due to Cyclone Midhili in November 2023. State agriculture minister Ratan Lal Nath explained that various crops, including paddy and vegetables, were destroyed. The agriculture department conducted a survey and reported the findings to the Revenue Department, which approved the funds. These funds are now being directly deposited into the bank accounts of over 78,000 affected farmers.

In addition to this support, the minister announced an increase in wages for agriculture laborers. He noted that in the fiscal year 2017-18, the wage was Rs 177 per day. Since the BJP came to power in Tripura, wages have been revised six times, with a total increase of Rs 224. The latest hike, effective from July 1, 2023, raises the daily wage to Rs 401 per person.
