Tripura CM Manik Saha Visits Flood-Affected Areas and Relief Camps
Agartala, Tripura – On August 23, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the Bokafa HS school shelter house, where 305 people affected by floods have taken refuge. He directed officials to provide essential support and amenities to ensure their comfort and well-being. CM Saha stated, “We are committed to standing by them through this challenging time.”
CM Saha also inspected flood-hit areas in Amarpur and Karbook after boarding an MI-17 helicopter at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to head to Gomati District and South Tripura. He noted that road infrastructure has been severely impacted and helicopters are being used for airlift and road repair efforts. The state has ample food packets and four helicopters in operation to aid affected communities.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed four teams engaged in rescue operations in South Tripura, Unakoti, Khowai, and West Tripura. They have evacuated 936 people and 38 livestock. Seven additional teams have been airlifted to Agartala for further operations in Gomati, Sepahijala, and other flood-affected areas.
On the same day, CM Saha visited the flood-affected areas of Udaipur in the Gomati district, which have been severely damaged due to heavy rains. He assessed the damage and ensured that aid reaches those in need. The CM also inspected relief camps at Khilpara Higher Secondary School and Khilpara Market Shed, reviewing their management.
The Gomati River is still flowing at 22.30 meters, above the extreme danger level of 22 meters. The state administration has shifted all families living on the riverbank in Amarpur, Udaipur, Sonamura, and surrounding villages. The government has requested all citizens to remain alert until the water level returns to normal. Essential food items are being air-dropped using MI-17 helicopters for severely affected people in Amarpur and Karbook under the Gomati district.
To take stock of the relief efforts, CM Saha inspected the shelter house at B. R. Ambedkar School in Bordowali on Thursday and assured the people that the government will provide all necessary support.
