Agartala, Tripura – On Friday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced a special relief package of Rs 564 crore to help the flood-affected areas and people in the state. The announcement was made during the third day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.

Extensive Damage from Recent Floods

CM Saha explained that the recent floods have caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, power lines, agriculture, and homes. The initial estimate of the damage is around Rs 14,247 crore. District magistrates and departmental officers are assessing the actual damage, and the state government will request additional funds from the Union Home Ministry for relief and rehabilitation.

Details of the Relief Package

The Rs 564 crore package will be funded by the state government and aims to provide immediate relief and support recovery efforts across various sectors:

  • Food and Civil Supplies: Rs 70 crore for 10 kg of additional rice per ration card per month for two months, benefiting 9.8 lakh ration card holders.
  • Agriculture: Rs 15 crore for seeds, fertilizers, and other support for Kharif and Rabi crops.
  • Horticulture: Rs 5 crore for winter vegetable and flower cultivation, paddy field repairs, and silt removal.
  • Fisheries: Rs 10 crore for purchasing fishlings to boost fish production.
  • Animal Resources: Rs 5 crore for animal health, feed, water supply, and medicine.
  • Education: Rs 12 crore for books and school repairs.
  • Drinking Water and Sanitation: Rs 50 crore for water supply to schools, Anganwadi centers, and households.
  • Urban and Rural Development: Rs 52 crore for road and drainage repairs.
  • Health: Rs 10 crore for disinfection and diarrhoea prevention supplies.
  • Water Resources: Rs 35 crore for dam and channel repairs.
  • Power: Rs 100 crore for power line and transformer repairs.
  • Roads and Buildings: Rs 200 crore for road and drain reconstruction.

CM Saha emphasized that while it will take months to fully recover, this package is a step in the right direction to bring relief to the affected people and continue the state’s development.
