Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Leads Efforts to Manage Flood Crisis

Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 24: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is scheduled to chair an all-party meeting on Saturday to review the ongoing flood situation in the state. Speaking on Friday, CM Saha assured citizens that the situation is under control and expressed gratitude for the central government’s support.

He announced that an all-party meeting will be held at 9 am to discuss further steps. CM Saha thanked Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for releasing about Rs 40 crore for Tripura. He highlighted the arrangements in relief camps and the support from various NGOs.

“All arrangements have been made in the relief camp. Fodder is also being arranged for animals. Special attention is being paid to cleanliness in the relief camp. Other NGOs are also engaged in helping. The water level of all the rivers except the Gomti River is gradually decreasing,” he said.

The Chief Minister assured that there is an adequate stock of essential supplies, including food, water, petrol, and diesel. According to the latest data, 24 people died, two were injured, and two others were reported missing in the floods. Preliminary reports suggest extensive damages to infrastructure and agriculture, with estimated damages around Rs 5000 crores.

Tripura faced unprecedented floods due to heavy rainfall since August 19. The water level of rivers is below the danger level except in the Gomti River at Sonamura. A total of 558 relief camps have been set up, and rescue operations are ongoing in Gomati and South Tripura Districts. Six teams of NDRF and six of SDRF are coordinating the efforts. Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue for another two days.
