Train Traffic Restored Quickly After Kavaraipettai Incident in Tamil Nadu
In Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, the Southern Railways announced the swift restoration of mainline train traffic following the Kavaraipettai incident. The Down (DN) line track was repaired by 7 am, and train number 12842 passed the accident site by 9:08 am on Sunday.
On October 11, a collision between the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express and a goods train led to the derailment of 12-13 coaches, injuring 19 people. Fortunately, no fatalities occurred. The Southern Railway reported that the DN line track was fit by 7 am, overhead equipment (OHE) works were completed by 8 am, and signaling was reconnected by 8:30 am.
The first train since the derailment passed through the Up main line at Ponneri-Kavarappetai railway station on Sunday morning. Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, inspected the accident site on October 12 and stated that an inquiry would begin the following week.
Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh expressed relief that there were no casualties and mentioned that the restoration was expected to be completed by Saturday night. Passengers from the derailed train were transported to Ponneri and Chennai Central, where they received medical checkups and were provided with food and water before continuing their journey.
A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the accident, and several trains were rescheduled and diverted as a result.
