On Sunday morning, the first train passed through the Up main line at Ponneri-Kavarappetai railway station after a derailment incident. The Southern Railway cleared the line following the derailment of 12-13 coaches of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, which collided with a goods train on Friday. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, though 19 people were injured.

Restoration work is ongoing at the Ponneri-Kavarappettai stations, located about 46 km from Chennai. Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, inspected the accident site on October 12. He stated that an inquiry would begin next week after gathering statements and evidence.

Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh assured that restoration would be completed by Saturday night. He confirmed that no one was in danger and those with minor injuries would be discharged from the hospital by evening.

Following the accident, stranded passengers of Train No.12578 were transported by buses and two EMU Specials to Ponneri and Chennai Central. At Chennai Central, passengers received medical checkups, food, and water before boarding a special train to Darbhanga. A high-level inquiry has been ordered, and several trains were rescheduled and diverted due to the accident.
