Train Services Restored After Mysuru-Darbhanga Express Accident in Tamil Nadu
On October 11, 2024, the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express derailed after colliding with a stationary goods train in Kavaraipettai, Tamil Nadu. The Southern Railways announced that train traffic was restored “in record time” by Saturday night, with the Nizamuddin – Dr MGR Chennai Rajdhani Express passing through the affected area.
Restoration Efforts
Restoration work continues on the downline, and a high-level inquiry has been initiated. The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, inspected the site. Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh confirmed no casualties, with only minor injuries reported. Injured passengers are receiving treatment and are expected to be discharged soon.
Passenger Assistance
All passengers were rescued and either transported to Chennai Central for onward travel or taken to hospitals. Three seriously injured passengers were admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital, while others with minor injuries received treatment at Ponneri Government Hospital. Ex-gratia payments were provided to the injured.

Several trains were rescheduled and diverted due to the accident. The stranded passengers were transported by buses and special trains to their destinations.
