Train Derailment in Russia’s Komi Republic Injures 70 People

A train derailment in Russia’s Komi Republic has left 70 people injured, with seven in serious condition. The incident involved Train 511, which was traveling from Vorkuta to Novorossiysk, a journey of around 5,000 kilometers.

Details of the Incident

The derailment occurred near the town of Inta at around 6:12 pm local time. Nine coaches went off the tracks, and emergency services were quickly dispatched to assist the passengers. Russian Railways reported that there were 232 passengers on board the 14-carriage train.

Possible Cause and Investigation

Heavy rainfall is suspected to have caused the derailment. Russian Railways has set up a task force led by General Director Oleg Belozerov to investigate the incident. Two recovery trains have been sent to the location, and a criminal investigation has been launched by the North-Western Transport Prosecutor’s office.

Response and Assistance

Following the incident, the head of the Republic of Komi, Vladimir Uyba, flew to the site to oversee the response efforts. Traffic on the affected section has been suspended as measures are taken to assist the injured and clarify information about the victims.
