On Friday evening, a train accident occurred in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, when 12 coaches of the Mysuru-Darbhanga Express derailed after colliding with a stationary goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed shock and stated that he is closely monitoring the rescue operations. Injured passengers have been taken to the hospital, and a team is providing food and travel arrangements for others.

Immediate Response

CM Stalin directed Minister for Minorities SM Nasar and other officials to reach the accident site. The fire department is working to remove the derailed coaches. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai.

Details of the Incident

The accident happened around 8:30 pm on the Chennai-Gudur section, affecting train movement in the area. According to Tiruvallur police, the train had 1,360 passengers on board. District Collector T Prabhushankar confirmed that 19 passengers were injured, with four sustaining severe injuries. All are stable now.

Railway Board’s Statement

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at the Railway Board, confirmed the accident and stated that relief operations began immediately. Over 90% of passengers have been evacuated, and no casualties have been reported. Train services have been diverted, and helpline numbers have been issued.
