In Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, two young siblings, a 5-year-old boy and his 3-year-old sister, tragically drowned in a rainwater-filled pit at a cemetery. The incident occurred in the Mohana locality late Wednesday evening.

Details of the Incident

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Niranjan Sharma, the children went out to play on Wednesday evening. When they did not return by 8-8:30 pm, their family began searching for them. They found the children’s slippers near a pit in the nearby cemetery. Upon closer inspection, the children were found drowning in the pit, which was overfilled due to rain.

Police and Family Actions

The family immediately informed the Mohana police. The police, led by ASP Sharma, retrieved the children from the pit and sent them to the hospital, where they were declared dead. A case has been registered based on the family’s complaint, and an investigation is underway.

Reason for the Pit

ASP Sharma explained that the pit was dug for visitors to the cemetery to wash their hands and feet. However, it had become overfilled with rainwater.

About the Family

The children were the son and daughter of Sonu Khan, who lives in Danda Colony under the Mohana police station area, 70 km from the district headquarters.
