On October 7, a tragic incident occurred at Marina Beach in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, during an air show organized by the Indian Air Force. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his condolences for the loss of five lives due to excessive heat and other medical reasons. He announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakhs to each victim’s family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Chief Minister Stalin stated, “I was in pain and grief knowing that 5 deaths occurred due to excess heat and other medical reasons. Condolences to the victims’ families and relatives. An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each would be given from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.” He emphasized that arrangements were made according to the Indian Air Force’s requirements, and a stampede was averted with the help of various departments.

The unexpected overcrowding led to chaos, making it difficult for the public to reach their vehicles and access public transport. Stalin assured that future events would have better arrangements to prevent such incidents.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian confirmed that five people died due to high temperatures, with 102 people affected by the heat. Initially, 93 required hospitalization, but the situation has improved, with only seven remaining inpatients.

Precautionary measures were communicated in advance, advising attendees to bring umbrellas and water bottles. The state government coordinated with the Indian Air Force to ensure the event’s success, holding several meetings to meet the Air Force’s demands.
