The fire broke out early Sunday morning at 5:20 am on the ground floor of a multi-storey building located at plot no 16/1, Sidharth Colony, KN Gaikwad Marg, Chembur (E).

Details of the Victims

The victims, all from the same family, have been identified as Presi Prem Gupta (6), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Dharamdev Gupta (39), Prem Chediram Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15), and GitaDevi Dharamdev Gupta (60). The family resided on the upper floors of the G+2 building, while the shop was on the ground floor.

Official Statements

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the fire claimed the lives of seven people, including three children. Hemraj Singh Rajput, DCP Zone 6, stated that the fire was caused by a short circuit near the electrical wiring on the ground floor. Two individuals who were sleeping in the shop managed to escape.
