A devastating fire broke out at a shop in Chembur, Mumbai, leading to the tragic loss of seven lives, including three children. The incident occurred early in the morning at a multi-storey building on KN Gaikwad Marg. The fire was caused by a short circuit near the shop’s electrical wiring.

Victims and Response

The victims, all from the Gupta family, were identified as Presi Prem Gupta (6), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Dharamdev Gupta (39), Prem Chediram Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15), and GitaDevi Dharamdev Gupta (60). The family lived on the upper floors of the building, while the shop was on the ground floor.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased. A high-level inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.
