In a heartbreaking incident, ten children lost their lives due to drowning in Bihar on Sunday. Six children drowned in the Sone river at Tumba village in Rohtas district, while four others drowned near Saraiya Dhala in the Kursela police station area of Katihar district.

Response from Bihar Chief Minister

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He announced an ex-gratia payment of four lakh rupees to the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister’s Office stated, “This accident is very sad, and the CM is deeply saddened by this incident.”

Medical and Rescue Efforts

Dr. Ramesh from Sadar Hospital Sasaram reported that five bodies were brought to the hospital from Tumba village, indicating drowning as the cause of death. Efforts are underway to complete formalities and release the bodies.

Previous Incidents

In September, 46 people, including 37 children, died in separate drowning incidents during the ‘Jitiya’ festival across various districts in Bihar. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are actively conducting search operations. The Disaster Management Department has recovered 43 bodies and will provide ex-gratia payments to the families.
