In a tragic incident, 25 passengers traveling from Rawalpindi to Pallandri in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) lost their lives when their bus plunged into a gorge near Kahuta. The accident occurred due to brake failure, as confirmed by Rescue 1122 Punjab official Usman Gujjar.

Details of the Accident

The accident took place near Garrari Bridge on Azad Pattan Road, which is located 24km from the tehsil headquarters and 7km from the PoJK border. Initially, it was reported that there were 24 victims, including 20 men, four women, and a child. They were taken to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital.

Medical and Rescue Efforts

Samina Khan Bhatty, the medical superintendent of THQ hospital, stated that 23 bodies were handed over to their families, while one body remained at the hospital. Another victim, identified as Fareed Muhammad Kareem, was directly shifted to Pallandri.

Condolences from Leaders

Pakistan People’s Party President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his deep grief and condolences to the families of the deceased. He emphasized the need to speed up relief activities and offered prayers for the bereaved families.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also expressed her sorrow on X, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of 29 precious lives in the incident of the bus falling into the ditch at Kahota. May Allah exalt the ranks of those who died in this tragedy and grant patience to their loved ones.”

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his regret over the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He also extended his heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the families of the deceased.
