Tragedy Strikes Siwan: 20 Lives Lost Due to Spurious Liquor

In Siwan, Bihar, a tragic incident occurred on Thursday where 20 people died after consuming spurious liquor. Siwan SP Amitesh Kumar confirmed the deaths. In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and three individuals have been arrested. An FIR has been filed against eight people.

Chapra Superintendent Kumar Ashish announced the formation of the SIT. The local Chowkidar and Panchayat Beat Police officers have been suspended. An explanation has been demanded from the SHO of Masrak Police Station and the Masrak Zone ALTF in charge. Legal actions are also being taken against the Bhagwanpur SHO and Prohibition ASI, as stated by District Magistrate Mukul Kumar Gupta.

Another Incident in Saran District

In a separate incident in Saran district, four more people died after consuming spurious liquor. The SIT has been formed, and an FIR has been lodged against eight individuals, with three arrests already made, according to Chhapra SP Kumar Ashish.

Relatives Speak Out

A relative of one of the deceased shared that his family member’s health deteriorated after consuming alcohol on October 15, leading to his death.

Political Reactions

The opposition party RJD has criticized the Nitish Kumar government, questioning how spurious liquor is available despite the prohibition law in Bihar. RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari accused the NDA government of protecting liquor mafias, leading to repeated tragedies during festivals like Holi and Diwali.
