Tourists Face Trouble as Ganga Water Levels Decline, Leaving Silt on Varanasi Ghats
After continuous heavy rainfall, the water levels of the Ganga River in Varanasi have started to decline. This has left behind a lot of silt on the ghats, making it difficult for tourists to visit. Local resident Jai Kumar Sahni said, “The water level of Maa Ganga is declining and the silt has accumulated on the ghats. The tourists are coming but they are unable to go on the ghats because of the mud, causing a lot of trouble.”
Another local, Sudhir Singh, has requested the municipal corporation to clean the ghats. He said, “The water level of river Ganga has declined leaving mud behind. I request the municipal corporation to immediately take action and maintain the cleanliness at the ghats.”
Similar issues are being faced in Prayagraj, where the water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have also come down, leaving silt and mud in previously submerged areas. The water had surged due to continuous rainfall in the mountains and active monsoon showers in the plains, forcing people in lower areas to evacuate their homes. Baghada, Salori, and Rajapur were some of the worst affected areas.
In Ayodhya, the water level of the Saryu River had crossed the danger mark in the hilly areas, causing further concerns.
