Toni Kroos Praises Lamine Yamal Ahead of Germany vs Spain EURO Cup 2024 Clash
Stuttgart, Germany, July 3 – German midfielder Toni Kroos has praised Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal, calling him FC Barcelona’s most ‘dangerous player’ in the previous La Liga season. Germany will face Spain in the quarter-finals of the EURO Cup 2024 at Stuttgart Arena on Friday.
Earlier in May, Kroos announced his retirement from football after the end of the EURO 2024. He ended his club career with Real Madrid after their 15th UEFA Champions League win. Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Kroos noted that younger players are increasingly talented. He highlighted Yamal’s capabilities and mentioned that Germany will try to keep Yamal and Nico Williams quiet in the upcoming match.
“In recent years, players seem to be better now at younger ages, it’s really incredible. He [Yamal] was Barcelona’s most dangerous player last season. We know what he’s capable of and will try to keep him and Nico Williams as quiet as possible. To be that good at 16 is simply unbelievable,” Kroos said.
In Spain’s last match against Georgia in the Round of 16, the 16-year-old Yamal created the most chances (6) in the game. He currently has the most assists (2) in the ongoing EURO Cup 2024 for Spain. In the La Liga 2023/2024 season, Yamal played 37 matches for FC Barcelona, scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists.
Germany enters this match after a 2-0 victory over Denmark in the pre-quarter-final, with goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala. Spain defeated Georgia 4-1, with goals from Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, and Dani Olmo.
