In Kolkata, West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following the tragic sexual assault and murder of a female trainee doctor. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh responded by stating that no BJP Chief Minister resigned when similar cases occurred in their states.

Ghosh emphasized that the investigation is now with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which he described as a friendly organization of the BJP. He questioned why doctors have not returned to work despite the Supreme Court’s involvement and oversight of the case.

Ghosh also pointed out that during similar incidents in other states, such as the Hathras and Unnao cases, no BJP Chief Minister resigned. He called the BJP’s actions ‘baseless drama politics.’

On Wednesday, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari led a protest rally demanding Mamata Banerjee’s resignation. Protestors, including West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar, wore black t-shirts and staged demonstrations in Kolkata.

The Supreme Court has formed a 10-member National Task Force to recommend measures for preventing violence and ensuring safe working conditions for medical professionals. The task force, which includes Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, is expected to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.

The court also directed the CBI to file a status report on the investigation and asked the West Bengal government to report on the mob attack incident at RG Kar hospital on August 15.

The tragic incident occurred on August 9, when a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, leading to nationwide protests by the medical community.
