The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has expressed disappointment over the Congress’s decision to nominate K Suresh for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker without consulting them. The election for the Speaker will be held tomorrow, with the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc set to compete.

TMC’s Reaction

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee criticized the decision, stating, “We were not contacted about this, there was no discussion. Unfortunately, this is a unilateral decision.”

Election Details

K Suresh, a long-serving MP, and NDA’s Om Birla have filed their nominations for the post of Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. Suresh has been an MP for 29 years and is the working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

INDIA Bloc Meeting

Earlier today, a meeting of the INDIA bloc’s floor leaders was held at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi to strategize for the election. Key leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee and Derek O’Brien, were present.

Following the meeting, Rahul Gandhi was named the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.
