TMC MP Saugata Roy Criticizes Union Budget 2024

Calls It ‘AB Budget Andhra-Bihar’

New Delhi [India], July 25: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy criticized the Union Budget 2024, claiming that the BJP-led NDA alliance is giving handouts to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar due to electoral losses in the recent Lok Sabha election.

During the budget debate, Roy said, “A budget is supposed to present the future plans of the government, but this is a budget which is called AB Budget Andhra-Bihar. They have allotted Rs 59 thousand crore to Bihar, Rs 15 thousand crore to Andhra Pradesh for a new capital.”

He described the Central Government as fragile, like glass, suggesting it could break at any moment. Roy also mentioned that several Chief Ministers, including those from Congress, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Kerala, have opposed the budget.

Roy accused the budget of being a copy-and-paste job from Congress’ Nyay Patra. He also highlighted economic issues, stating that the unemployment rate reached 9.2% in June 2024, with female unemployment at 18.5%. Additionally, he noted that inflation rose to 5.08% in June 2024, with food prices increasing by 9.36%.

Roy concluded by mentioning a study showing that 34% of households are struggling to manage their expenses, indicating severe financial stress for a third of India.
